Severe Weather and Heat Threats Possible in the Mid-South

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, is monitoring multiple hazards for today, including the threat of severe weather and flash flooding. These conditions could develop as early as this afternoon and continue into the overnight hours, according to the agency.

There is still uncertainty about the severity and timing of the storms. Forecasters indicate there may be two rounds of storms, both capable of producing damaging wind gusts and flash flooding. Residents are advised to stay alert and monitor weather updates starting this afternoon.

In addition to the severe weather risks, the region is expected to experience high temperatures, with highs in the low to mid 90s. The heat index could exceed 100 degrees across much of the area, with some locations in eastern Arkansas and the Mississippi Delta potentially reaching over 105 degrees, the weather service said.

Officials recommend taking precautions to stay safe during the heat and remain vigilant for changing weather conditions.
