Corrections Policy

Accuracy matters to Pontotoc News. Readers who believe an article contains an error can ask us to review it. This policy applies to reported articles, source summaries and AI-assisted or automatically published content.

How to request a correction

Use the Pontotoc News contact form. Begin your message with “Correction request” and include:

  • The article’s title and URL.
  • The specific statement, name, date, score, image or other detail you believe is wrong.
  • The correct information, if known, and supporting links, records or other source material.
  • Your contact information so we can ask a follow-up question if necessary.

Please explain the factual issue as specifically as possible. A disagreement with a viewpoint is different from a factual error, but readers are welcome to send either concern.

Reviewing a request

Our standard is to compare the disputed information with the available evidence and relevant original sources. A request alone does not establish that an article is wrong. If the evidence is incomplete or conflicting, further checking may be needed before a change is made.

Corrections, clarifications and updates

A correction fixes information that was wrong when published. A clarification explains wording that was unclear or lacked important context. An update adds a later development to a story that was accurate at the time.

When a material factual error is confirmed, our standard is to correct the affected text and add a dated note explaining the substantive change. Minor spelling, punctuation or formatting fixes that do not change the meaning may be made without a separate note. Headlines, captions and summaries should be checked when they contain the same error.

New information should not be used to disguise an earlier mistake. If a story’s central premise cannot be supported, an ordinary text edit may be insufficient; the appropriate response can include an editor’s note or retraction explaining the problem.
