The USDA Senior Voucher Program has been reduced by nearly half, leaving many seniors without access to funds for fresh, nutritious foods. The program has already run out of funds for the year, and market officials say they are receiving daily calls from seniors hoping to apply. The program is one of the few that helps adults over 60 afford healthy foods, officials said.

Market representatives emphasized that they never turn anyone away who needs produce. They grow food at the community garden, raise funds through an annual Farm Harvest Dinner, and offer Healthy Food Vouchers for those in need. Despite these efforts, rising demand and reductions in programs such as SNAP, WIC, and local food assistance have increased reliance on limited community resources.

Market officials are urging community members to contact their elected representatives to advocate for the continuation of these programs. They provided phone numbers for Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, Sen. Roger Wicker, and Rep. Trent Kelly, encouraging constituents to voice support for vital nutrition assistance.
