Regional: Free storm-spotter class set Thursday in Oxford

The National Weather Service in Memphis will hold a free storm-spotter class from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at North East Mississippi EPA, 1389 Cooperative Way in Oxford.

The SKYWARN class is open to the public. NWS says people may attend regardless of their county of residence, so the regional session is available to Pontotoc County residents as well.

The agency’s course description covers severe-thunderstorm characteristics, cloud formations associated with severe weather, how to report observations effectively and basic weather safety.

NWS cautions that hazardous weather can cause classes to be postponed or canceled on short notice. Prospective attendees should check the official schedule before traveling.
