National Weather Service issues Extreme Heat Warning for parts of the South
The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for parts of West Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, the Missouri Bootheel, and extreme northwest Mississippi. The warning is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and covers areas expected to experience heat index values of 110 degrees or higher.
In addition, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday for regions where heat index values are projected to be between 105 and 109 degrees, according to the weather service.
The agency advises residents to take precautions during the high heat, including staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and seeking air-conditioned environments when possible.
Forecasters continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates as necessary.
