Mississippi State protected its unbeaten home volleyball record and Southern Miss salvaged a point with a late soccer goal Sunday, Oct. 11, in two conference contests involving Mississippi universities.
In Starkville, the Bulldogs defeated South Carolina 25–21, 25–14, 25–19 to improve to 13–3 overall and 3–2 in the Southeastern Conference. They recovered from a 12–7 deficit in the opening set and a 6–1 deficit in the third to complete the sweep.
Mississippi State finished with 12 blocks to South Carolina’s six. The Bulldogs’ next match is Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Missouri.
In Hattiesburg, Southern Miss twice came from behind to tie Troy 2–2 on Senior Day. Argentina Estrada scored after halftime to erase Troy’s first lead. After the Trojans went ahead again, Olivia Tribolet supplied the equalizer late in the second half.
The result left Southern Miss at 5–5–3 overall and 2–3–1 in the Sun Belt Conference. Goalkeeper Logan McGruder made six saves. The Golden Eagles next travel to South Alabama on Friday, Oct. 16, for a 6 p.m. Central match.
