MDOT contractors to begin debris removal from Winter Storm Fern by Aug. 5
Contractors for the Mississippi Department of Transportation will begin removing debris left by Winter Storm Fern, which struck the region earlier this year. The work is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Debris piles along interstates and highways in north Mississippi and parts of the Mississippi Delta will be cleared. Due to the project’s large geographic scope, residents may not see the contractors working at all times, MDOT officials said.
MDOT was required to advertise and award a debris evaluation contract before debris removal could begin. The agency followed state procurement laws, which specify advertising periods and procedures for such contracts. These steps were necessary for reimbursement purposes and to ensure proper management of the cleanup process.
