Heat advisory and storm risk forecast for Memphis area Sunday

The National Weather Service in Memphis issued a heat advisory and highlighted a risk of severe storms for Sunday. The heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m., with heat indices exceeding 105°F in parts of the Delta region.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, take it easy, and check on neighbors, children, and pets amid the oppressive humidity. Forecasters warn that this will be the last day of such extreme heat for the week.

From 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., areas south of Interstate 40 face a marginal risk of severe weather, according to the Storm Prediction Center. The main threat includes damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, along with the possibility of localized flooding from heavy rain.

Storms are expected to move from north-northwest to south-southeast. Residents with outdoor plans should have a way to receive weather warnings instantly and stay alert for changing conditions.
