UMMC launches first nurse anesthetist program with 16 students
Sixteen registered nurses are the first students in the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s new nurse anesthetist program, according to UMMC. The program’s inaugural cohort is beginning advanced training at Mississippi’s only academic medical center.
The students are preparing for careers that aim to address the increasing demand for skilled anesthesia providers across the state and beyond, UMMC said. The program is designed to train highly qualified nurse anesthetists to meet healthcare needs in Mississippi and the region.
UMMC officials emphasized that this initiative marks a significant step in expanding healthcare workforce capacity. The program aims to produce graduates equipped to serve in diverse clinical settings and improve patient care outcomes.
