Tropical funnel clouds possible in parts of Arkansas and Missouri this afternoon

Brief tropical funnel clouds may develop across northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel this afternoon, according to weather officials.

These funnels are typically not hazardous and usually do not reach the surface. However, if they do touch down, they could produce wind speeds around 50 mph, the National Weather Service said.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert for weather updates and avoid outdoor activities if funnel clouds are observed.
