WTVA reports 11-acre Toccopola woods fire fully contained
An 11-acre woods fire near Highway 334 in Toccopola was fully contained, WTVA reported late Saturday, Oct. 17.
Multiple fire departments and the Mississippi Forestry Commission responded to the fire in western Pontotoc County.
Thaxton Fire Chief Kenny Pennington told WTVA that the fire began as a controlled burn before wind carried sparks across the road and into the woods.
The station reported that the Forestry Commission was asking residents to hold off on burning debris because of dry and windy conditions.
