Severe Thunderstorm Watch Canceled Early in the Mid-South

The National Weather Service canceled the severe thunderstorm watch over the Mid-South earlier than expected, citing a reduced threat in the area. Forecasters indicated that the main severe weather risk is now likely to remain north and east of the region.

Meteorologists said residents can expect the weather to remain relatively calm for the time being. However, attention is turning to a heatwave forecasted to bring oppressive temperatures throughout much of next week.

Officials advise residents to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat as the region faces prolonged high temperatures in the coming days.
