Ecru alerts residents to Pontotoc County burn ban
The Town of Ecru alerted residents Tuesday afternoon that Pontotoc County is under a burn ban, urging people to avoid outdoor burning as dry conditions make fires easier to spread and harder to control.
The town’s notice asks residents not to burn brush piles or yard debris, trash or household waste, fields, pastures or ditch lines. It also asks people to avoid campfires, bonfires and burn barrels until the ban is lifted.
Ecru’s safety message extends beyond planned burning. The notice calls for care with discarded cigarettes, hot equipment in dry grass and vehicles parked over tall, dry vegetation—potential ignition sources while conditions remain dry.
The local alert follows a Tuesday morning National Weather Service outlook for continued elevated afternoon fire danger across the Mid-South. Pontotoc News’ earlier report on that regional outlook is linked below, along with the town’s notice.
