Mid-South experiences hottest day of summer so far, weather outlook points to autumn

The Mid-South recorded its hottest day of the summer so far, according to weather reports. Many residents are now looking forward to cooler autumn temperatures.

Experts say the region needs to lose sunlight to fully transition into fall. One month after the summer solstice, the area has lost 21 minutes of daily sunlight.

Officials forecast an additional 53 minutes of sunlight loss between now and Aug. 21, as days continue to grow shorter. The shift marks the gradual approach of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.
