Mid-South braces for dangerous heat with heat advisories in effect

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, has issued heat advisories and warnings for much of the Mid-South as dangerous heat continues. Forecasters expect heat index values to reach between 105 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit in most areas today.

The advisories will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT, as residents are urged to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Authorities recommend staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable populations.

The extreme heat poses health risks, especially for children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions. Officials advise residents to stay cool and seek shade or air conditioning when possible.

Meteorologists continue to monitor the situation as heat levels are expected to persist through the day, with officials warning residents to remain vigilant and prepared for the high temperatures.
