Memphis Weather Service Issues Heat and Storm Preparedness Tips
The National Weather Service in Memphis has released an action plan for residents to stay safe amid heat and storm threats today.
From noon to 8 p.m., the focus is on beating the heat. Authorities recommend drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight and light-colored clothing, and checking on neighbors, elderly family members, and pets to ensure they have a cool place to stay.
The agency also warns against leaving children or pets in parked cars at any time. During the afternoon, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., residents should prepare for storms by keeping their phones charged and weather alerts turned on. It is advised to have rain gear ready and to seek shelter indoors if thunder is heard.
Officials emphasize the importance of staying informed and taking precautions to protect against weather-related hazards today, especially during peak heat hours and potential storm activity.
