Heat Wave Continues in the Mid-South with Extreme Temperatures

An extreme heat warning is in effect for the entire Mid-South through 8 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis. Forecasters expect heat indices to reach at least 110 degrees Fahrenheit daily, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

The heat wave is expected to continue into the middle of next week, prompting health officials to urge residents to take precautions. Officials advise taking frequent breaks in the shade or air-conditioned spaces, avoiding strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day, and never leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles.

Residents are also urged to wear lightweight, light-colored, loose clothing, stay well-hydrated, and check on neighbors, especially vulnerable populations. The weather service emphasizes the importance of staying safe during these dangerous conditions.
