Heat index to top 110 degrees in Memphis area, brief relief expected Tuesday
Memphis, Tenn. — The National Weather Service in Memphis warns residents of dangerous heat conditions continuing through the week. Despite a weak front moving through the region, heat indices are expected to reach between 105°F and 113°F this afternoon, according to the agency.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop today, so residents are advised to keep umbrellas nearby. The weather service also reports a brief respite from the heat on Tuesday, offering a one-day break from the extreme temperatures.
However, the relief will be temporary. Officials say the dangerous heat will return Wednesday and persist through the week. They urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
