Flood Advisory Issued for Parts of North Mississippi

A flood advisory has been issued for portions of North Mississippi, including Pontotoc and Union counties, until 7:45 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency reports that heavy rainfall from thunderstorms has caused urban and small stream flooding. Radar indicated that between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain had fallen as of late Monday afternoon, with an additional inch expected.

The weather service noted that minor flooding could affect low-lying and poorly drained areas. Locations at risk include New Albany, Pontotoc, Trace State Park, Ecru, New Harmony, Furrs, Keownville, Troy, Randolph, Sherman, Thaxton, Algoma, Myrtle, Blue Springs, Cherry Creek, Ingomar, Hortonstown, Nixon, Wallerville, and Bald Hill.

The advisory is set to expire at 7:45 p.m. Monday. Officials advise residents to monitor local weather updates and exercise caution in affected areas.
