Severe Weather Threatens Mississippi and Tennessee Tonight and Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Memphis issued a forecast highlighting the potential for severe weather tonight and Wednesday across parts of Mississippi and Tennessee.

Tonight, the primary concerns are damaging winds and the possibility of a tornado or two. While the tornado threat remains low, any developing tornado could quickly reach EF-2 strength, the weather service said. The storms are expected after dark, which could coincide with sleeping hours. Residents are advised to ensure they have a way to receive warnings promptly.

On Wednesday, uncertainty surrounds the storm setup due to ongoing storms ahead of an approaching frontal boundary. The weather service indicated that damaging winds will remain a concern, with an increasing risk of tornadoes in northern Mississippi during the afternoon and evening. Although the probability of a tornado is low, the potential for a strong tornado exists, representing a high-impact, low-probability scenario.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on the latest forecasts and to have a severe weather plan in place. The weather service emphasized the importance of preparedness as conditions unfold.
