Pontotoc County receives $20,000 grant for mural project
The Pontotoc County Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Association was awarded a $20,000 grant on Wednesday for the ‘Heart of the Hills Mural Project,’ according to the Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area.
The project aims to depict themes, stories, and imagery reflecting the agricultural traditions, cultural heritage, and natural landscape of Pontotoc County. It will also highlight the area’s history, including its Chickasaw roots and railroad significance.
The grant was accepted by a representative of the chamber and Main Street Association, who expressed appreciation for the support. The project intends to celebrate and preserve the region’s unique heritage through public art.
The Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area awarded the funding as part of its efforts to promote local history and culture. The mural is expected to become a prominent feature in Pontotoc County, attracting visitors and fostering community pride.
