Mid-South braces for potential winter weather this weekend

The Mid-South region could experience winter weather this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis. Forecasters say snowfall predictions vary widely among different weather models.

The uncertainty stems from three key ingredients that could influence the storm’s development. These include a large upper low off the California coast bringing moisture, an upper-level disturbance over western Canada affecting how much moisture reaches the region, and Arctic air from northern Canada.

Models disagree on the first two ingredients, which could mean the difference between as little as 2 inches or as much as 15 inches of snow. Forecasters also note uncertainty on how far north freezing rain may fall. However, they are confident about one aspect: it will be cold.

As the storm system evolves over the next few days, officials plan to provide more specific forecasts. Residents are advised to prepare for possible winter weather conditions during the weekend.
