University of Mississippi Medical Center warns of legitimate scam communications

The University of Mississippi Medical Center has issued a warning about recent communications regarding clinic closures. The hospital confirmed that emails, texts, and calls about closures or requests to send messages are legitimate and originate from an off-site vendor.

UMMC activated the vendor due to its electronic medical record system, Epic, being down. The hospital emphasized that while the messages are safe, recipients are not required to click on any links included in them. The hospital apologized for any confusion caused by the communications.

Patients are advised to remain cautious and verify any messages received during this period. UMMC stated that the vendor’s outreach is part of their efforts to communicate effectively during the system outage.
