Temperatures Break Records Across the South in March

Temperatures have soared across parts of the South, setting or tying multiple weather records over the past two days, according to local weather reports.

On March 21, Memphis, Tennessee, reached 84 degrees, tying the previous record set in 1907. Jackson, Tennessee, hit 87 degrees, surpassing its previous record of 84 degrees from 1966.

The following day, March 22, saw more record-breaking temperatures. Memphis reached 86 degrees, exceeding its previous high of 83 degrees from 1898. Tupelo, Mississippi, hit 88 degrees, breaking the previous record of 83 degrees set in 1995 and 1939. Jackson, Tennessee, reached 88 degrees, surpassing its previous record of 82 degrees from 1988.

The March 22 record in Jackson also marked the warmest temperature ever recorded for the month of March in that city. The previous March high was 87 degrees, recorded in 2016, 1986, and in 2026.

Forecasters say temperatures are expected to drop into the 60s today and into the upper 50s to low 60s tomorrow, providing some relief from the recent heat wave.
