North Pontotoc shuts down Alcorn Central for third straight shutout
North Pontotoc’s defense continued its season‑long dominance Friday night. Playing on the road in Glen, the Vikings blanked the Alcorn Central Bears 55–0, marking their third straight shutout. Each of North Pontotoc’s wins so far has come by at least 35 points, and this one was no different.
Quarterback Drew Winfun led the offensive explosion, completing nearly three‑quarters of his passes while throwing for a career‑best 261 yards and four touchdowns. Receiver Dee Slaughter was his top target, accounting for 94 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, the Vikings averaged nearly 10 yards per carry and smothered the Bears’ rushing attack, which managed only 2.8 yards per attempt.
Linebacker Luke Hale and defensive back Khylun Jones both intercepted passes, and Hale logged his third consecutive game with at least six tackles. The loss dropped Alcorn Central to 1‑2 and extended its home losing streak to seven games dating back to last season.
North Pontotoc improves to 3‑0 and now prepares for a trip to Kossuth on Sept. 26. Alcorn Central heads to Walnut this Friday in search of a rebound.
