Illegal Alien Arrested in Pontotoc on Felony Child Abuse Charge

PONTOTOC COUNTY — A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged with felony child abuse following an investigation by the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Division.

Authorities say Jamie Reniery Sauceda Velasquez was taken into custody Monday, October 13, 2025, at his residence in the Katelyn Path area without incident. The arrest stems from an investigation launched after a 7-year-old girl was brought to North Mississippi Medical Center–Pontotoc by her mother with visible bruising on her upper body.

Velasquez, a Honduran national reportedly in the country illegally, is being held on a $50,000 bond set by the Pontotoc County Justice Court. Immigration authorities have been notified and have placed a detainer on him.

The case will be presented to an upcoming Pontotoc County grand jury for review.
