Day 4 of #MOSWPW2026 Focuses on Hail and Damaging Winds

On the fourth day of the #MOSWPW2026 conference, experts are examining hail and damaging winds associated with thunderstorms.

The discussion centers on how to differentiate between regular, strong, and severe thunderstorms. A strong thunderstorm can produce small hail up to penny size, winds exceeding 30 mph but less than 57 mph, and heavy rain.

In contrast, a severe thunderstorm features hail measuring at least 1 inch in diameter and winds of 58 mph or greater, according to the conference organizers.

Attendees are encouraged to understand these thresholds to better assess storm severity and potential impacts.
